Teenager Carlo Acutis to Become Saint

Dedication of Young Italian Computer Prodigy

News Summary

In a groundbreaking move, the Vatican has announced that 15-year-old Carlo Acutis will become the first millennial saint. Acutis, an Italian teenager who passed away in 2006 from leukemia, earned the nickname "God's Computer Geek" for his exceptional computer skills and his dedication to spreading the Catholic faith online.

Born in London to Italian parents, Acutis was raised in Milan where he developed a passion for computers and coding at an early age. He used his technical abilities to create websites dedicated to sharing his faith and promoting Eucharistic devotion. Acutis also volunteered at a local soup kitchen and nursed the sick, demonstrating his compassion and love for others.

Despite his young age, Acutis lived a deeply spiritual life. He attended Mass daily, spent hours in prayer, and often wore a garment with Biblical references. His sanctity and unwavering faith inspired many who knew him, and his death from leukemia in 2006 was met with great sadness.

Acutis's cause for sainthood was officially opened in 2007, and his heroic virtues were recognized by Pope Francis in 2018. His beatification, the final step before canonization, took place in 2020. The Vatican has now announced that Acutis will be officially declared a saint on October 10, 2021, making him the first member of the millennial generation to receive this honor.
